Get On Your Bike & Ride: My Peloton Obsession

It’s been nearly two years, over 1,800 total workouts, over 2,000 miles and closing out on 1,000 bike rides. You can say I’m Peloton-obsessed.

So I figured I would take some time to answer some of the most frequently asked questions I get….

  1. Do you use it every day?
The answer is yes. I mean, I don’t ride everyday, but I do a daily workout. It may just be a 10 minute arm workout or a 20 minute yoga workout. But Peloton has these little blue dots that mark the days you workout. If you miss a day, no blue dot. My OCD does not allow a no blue dot situation.

The Peloton blue dots show days you have worked out. Don’t get a workout in? No blue dot for you.

2. Do you have a favorite instructor?
Of course I do. Have you met me?
The beautiful thing about Peloton is there is someone for everyone.
And there’s even a quiz to help you get matched up.
I also find it to be a personal passion project, making sure you find your Peloton match.
Christine is my favorite. Like number one ride or die.
Jenn Sherman and Cody Rigsby are in a tie for second place.
I have done rides with every instructor. It’s another OCD thing. But also, you get stats at the end of the year and the worst is when it says you rode with 13 out of 14 instructors. Don’t let that happen to you.

Each person rides for different reasons. For me, it’s about the music, I need to connect with it. Christine also gives you a dose of therapy you didn’t realize you need. Her playlists tell a story and she’s a badass real-life cycling work champion. She’s been essential to me during this pandemic. Jenn plays awesome music that is the soundtrack of my high school years. Cody is like your gay best friend playing all the bops and giving you all the tea.

3. Do I have to ride on a set schedule?
NO! This is the beauty of Peloton. You can do a live ride, where you and a bunch of people all ride at the same time with the live instructor. Many people are intimidated by these rides. DO NOT BE. No one is paying attention to you. Trust me. Get on the bike and ride. It’s a fun experience to ride with a whole crew. But, you can also look at the bike at 6:15 a.m., and just jump on a random ride and do it. No matter what you choose, no pressure. To quote Christine, “Just ride the damn bike.”

These are some of the basic questions.
What else do you want to know?

I’ve gotten questions about riding live in the Peloton New York studio. That’s a whole separate blog!
