Want to blog? Get on the CFLBlogCon train

Have you ever had one of those days when you felt totally inspired…in the zone…and overwhelmed all at the same time?

That was my day Saturday at CFLBlogCon.  The Central Florida Blogger & Social Media Conference is an annual event gathering some of the most interesting and amazing speakers and some of the most interesting bloggers across Central Florida.

A crazy start to the day due to the nearby Heart Walk – which started late and lead to lots of driving in circles for the participants. There was really nothing that could have been done about that – but it certainly made the start a little frustrating for some.

But that quickly changed when a flash mob welcomed the group!

Keynote speak Lou Mongello really got the crowd going with some inspirational stories and of course, quotes from Walt Disney himself.

“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”  Walt Disney

Here are some of my action items from the event:

  • Commit – You have to think big…
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for money – if you have something people are using and enjoy, they will pay.
  • Need to really focus on a niche – have a strong focus and commit to it – and explore local ad opportunities that may be coming soon.
  • Need to develop a blogging habit.  Need to get an editorial calendar going and really commit serious time and effort into making this a place you guys want to come back to time and time again to enjoy my endless wit.  Kidding…sort of.
  • Really investigate some serious tools to make this easier (Google Reader, TweetDeck/Hootsuite, schedule tweets
  • Don’t be afraid to branch out – why just a blog? Why not a podcast? Magazine? Tshirts?
  • True SEO is all about the ability to write – content is king – and there is no gaming google.
  • Amazing things can happen if you really commit to twitter.  Look to automate some popular news resources into twitter and become the expert in your field.
  • Good so many fun tools and gadgets out there with the intention of making the internet user experience even better. Don’t be afraid to spend money on they tools.

It was a great experience to put so many faces with names from twitter.  The event was very smooth and paperless!  I left with no paper! Amazing right? Now I need to download all the other material of the classes I couldn’t get too.  More learning ahead!

Thanks to the event organizers and planners for such a smooth and productive event. Can’t wait until next year!

    • I know! Sorry I missed you as well! I didn’t get to stay for the after party due to some other commitments. I feel like I missed so many people that I wanted to meet. We’ll have to schedule a meet-up at some point!

  1. Hi Jen! Hope you enjoyed the keynote and found some good takeaways from it! I also hope you were able to learn and share throughout the day and had as much fun as I did!
