My right foot goes numb when I run

I feel like I’m just falling apart.

I’ve been working out quite a lot lately.  Doing my training runs, going on extra walks, doing some weights and generally, just trying to be healthier.

But it appears the more I do, the worse my body reacts.

I’ve had this problem with my left ankle for a couple of years now.  Hasn’t bothered me in a good year or so.

Yet this past week, I’ve almost gone to urgent care twice.  Typically I ice it, and it’s a bit better the next day.

Then this weekend, problems started with my right foot.  I totally lost feeling completely and it just went numb.

I played with the shoe laces, stretched it out and it didn’t really help.

I figured, I have bad shoes and bad socks.

A quick trip to the sports story, and $80 later and I had my new gear.

I’ve been doing some long distance walking these past two days to break them in…and still…NUMB!

So, what is this about?

Anyone?

  1. Do you by chance have a doctor around who handles sports injuries? My GP specializes in sports injuries and he and his staff have been very helpful when it comes to the variety of injuries Brian and I sustain over the course of our running. Other doctors would be all, here’s an easy solution – don’t run! But this guy and his ARNPs will actually work with us to see if there is a problem and if there is to come up with a solution.

I’ve had foot numbness before – on the bottom of my foot – but it’s almost always happened when my shoes are getting worn out. Doesn’t sound like that’s the issue with you.

    • I get numbing quite often. Most often it’s in the big toe and ball of the foot, but sometimes a larger area. Sometimes it’s both feet. I usually choose to keep going. This will sometimes increase circulation and lessen the numbing, other times it stays for the whole time. Good luck!

  2. Go see Dr. Yo! It may have more to do with your low back/butt joints getting out of alignment and pinching the nerves that go to your feet. Jimmy gets this every now and then and an adjustment seems to help. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!
