I want to win an Emmy.
Story time: I was in 7th grade. I had an awesome, amazing “industrial ed” teacher. It was basically wood-shop, where we got to work with cool, crazy tools and make pencil holders and such. Our teacher, Lew Blond had us write a paper about what we wanted to be when we grew up.
It was an easy assignment for me. You see, I was totally obsessed with “Days of Our Lives.” I decorated all my books with Days, the planner, my TrapperKeeper…all of it, was Days of Our Lives. So I wrote about wanting to be on tv. I wanted to be a soap opera actress. ( I did have a typo in my paper- apparently I wrote “I want to be on a tv”…and I remember Mr. Blond drawing a stick figure on top of a tv on my paper!)
Aside from the daily drama of soaps, I was super-obsessed with award shows…especially the daytime Emmy awards. I remember being so upset when Days would lose out. Oh the shame! I would practice my speech and clear places in my bedroom for the Emmy Award, should I finally win one.
As I went off to high school, I had no concept of HOW to become an actress. I figured, since soap operas were on television, that I should learn about that! So my first semester of my freshman year, I signed up for Intro to Broadcasting. A semester later, I realized that I learned all about radio and television production, but little about acting. The thing was, I didn’t care. I was not interested in hanging with the theatre people, and I found I was actually good at the tv and radio thing!
That was in 1990…so now, almost 20 years later…I’m actually nominated for my very own Emmy.
You can see for yourself!
