The ice cream featured in this post was provided for me for FREE. I mean, who can turn down free ice cream! I was not paid for this post, and opinions are my own. Again, I love ice cream. So when approached to blog about some new ice cream products, why say no?!
Turns out, golfer Jack Nicklaus is also an avid ice cream fan. So much so that he’s now putting his name on a new brand just hitting the market.
Jack Nicklaus premium ice cream is manufactured by a division of The Schwan Food Company—the 60-year-old Minnesota-based manufacturer and marketer of fine frozen foods and nationally renowned for its home delivery service.
The new Jack Nicklaus pint-sized ice cream will be available at Winn Dixie, Bi-Lo and Kroger stores in select markets with a suggested retail price of $1.99. The ice cream comes in seven rich and creamy varieties, loaded with real ingredients. Flavors include:
- Warm Spiced Butter Pecan
- Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl
- Salted Caramel Toffee
- Strawberry Lemonade
- Triple Chocolate
- Coffee and Donuts
- Homemade Vanilla
The ice cream was shipped to my door on the hottest day of the year so far. Seriously, it was 90-degrees in Orlando and a box of ice cream was left on my front door porch for hours while we were at work. I came home to find and box and though, well, this is going to be messy. I was so surprised to cut open the box to find the ice cream perfectly frozen, completely covered in dry ice. (My kids also had an amazing time playing with the dry ice.
I instantly cracked open the Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl. My favorite ice cream IN THE WORLD is Baskin-Robbins Peanut Butter and Chocolate. I’ve never found an ice cream that could compete with it. Until now. Not only is the ice cream itself amazing and creamy, but there are so many chunks of chocolate/peanut buttery goodness in it. I think we finished off the entire pint in about 15 minutes. There were so many ribbons of peanut butter throughout. PLUS, the added bonus of chocolate covered peanuts AND mini peanut butter cups. I mean, it really doesn’t get much better.
Here’s what my 9-year-old thought of it:
“The ice cream was so good and it was very thick. There were chunks of peanut butter, and peanuts with chocolate on it. It tasted like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. It was really good and I want to go to the store and buy more.”
And here’s the review from my 12-year-old:
“I just had an amazing spoonful of chocolate. I like ice cream with a little bit of chunks in it but not a lot. It has a good mix too. At the beginning you would taste chocolate and after awhile you can taste the peanut butter. It had chunks of peanut butter and peanut butter cups. I thought it was awesome.”
It was a BIG HIT in our house! The other flavor we tried was the coffee and donuts. Now, I’m not a huge fan of coffee, so to me, it was ok ice cream. My husband on the other hand, is a coffee addict. He loved the ice cream, and could not understand how or why more places haven’t used REAL DONUTS in ice cream? So, if you like coffee and donuts, I’m told this ice cream is pretty great!
The bonus part of buying the ice cream, the money goes to charity. According to the press release, “To launch the new business endeavor, Jack Nicklaus teamed up with Schwan’s Global Supply Chain, Inc. (“Schwan”). With a shared commitment to philanthropy, Schwan has become a supporter of the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation (nchcf.org). The Foundation’s goal is to provide families access to world-class pediatric healthcare. Beyond the ice cream pilot program in 2015, the Nicklauses hope to tie in other children’s charities to sales of the product.”
