What to watch on TV in September – New shows are back!

It’s that time of the year again when I get all my trashy magazines in order and set up my DVR schedule. Here’s at look at what’s ahead for what I think will be a promising 2013 Fall Schedule. Below is not the complete schedule – but what I plan to watch and/or my editorial feelings on other shows that I plan NOT to watch and hope you won’t as well.
Sunday, September 8
9:00 p.m. Boardwalk Empire – HBO – I’m not a fan but my husband is.

Monday, September 9
12 p.m. Bethenny – FOX (in Orlando – check local listings!) – Not gonna lie, I’m a huge Real Housewives fan and Bethenny is my girl. I wish her success in daytime. I know I’ll be watching.

Wednesday, September 11
8:00 p.m. The X Factor – FOX – Most likely watch it a bit because I’m sure my kids will enjoy it.

Tuesday, September 17
8:00 p.m. Dads– FOX – This is a new FOX comedy shot staring Seth Green and Givovanni Ribisi and is about two best friends who are video game developers and deal with their dads moving into their lives. It’s the brainchild of Seth MacFarlane – so chances are it will be uncomfortably funny. Worthy of a chance. It could either be the next New Girl…or it will disappear in the middle of the night never to be heard from again.
8:30 p.m. Brooklyn Nine-Nine – FOX – This sounds like one of those shows that you want to be good, but it could just fail miserably. The show starts Andy Samberg as Detective Jake Peralta. The premise is described as “A laid-back NYPD detective is told he must grow up and “respect the badge” when his new boss is a strict, by-the-book type. I don’t have high hopes. But, I’ll give it a chance.
9:00 p.m. New Girl – FOX – Hells yeah!
9:30 p.m. The Mindy Project – FOX – Can’t wait to see my girl again!

Friday, September 20
8:30 p.m. The Neighbors – ABC – Maybe I should be scared by its Friday night time-slot. But seriously, this was one of my favorite shows from last season. It’s so funny and quirky without being annoying. I’m thrilled it’s back for a second season – now I just need to get all my friends watching it so we can rally if they try to pull it again!

Sunday, September 22
8:00p.m. THE 65TH PRIMETIME EMMY® AWARDS- CBS
*This is also the night Downton Abbey premieres in the U.K. So if you have a way to watch it – this is an important date to keep in mind. (It won’t premiere in the U.S. until Jan. 5 – WHY do they do this?!?!?!)
Monday, September 23
8:00 p.m. How I Met Your Mother– CBS – I haven’t watched this show in awhile – but it’s the last season and we’ll finally meet the mom, so I’ll add it back to me list. It’s only because of Neil Patrick Harris that I’m even considering this J
8:00 p.m. The Voice – NBC – I’m not a fan of the original judges. But as long as Adam and Blake are on together and fighting, I’m in!
9:00 p.m. 2 Broke Girls– CBS – Cheesy – yes. Predictable – yes. Funny- yes. I won’t stop watching this one anytime soon.
9:30 p.m. MOM – CBS – Dear TV Gods – please, please, please let this one be funny. The fact that Allison Janney (who’s my favorite character ever from an Aaron Sorkin film/tv show) and Anna Faris (who was beyond funny in House Bunny – no I’m not ashamed that I love that movie!) are in a new tv show together has the potential for huge success. They are both funny and smart women and I really, really want this one to be good. It’s also produced by Chuck Lorre who’s no slouch. I think it looks very funny. Here’s a preview: http://www.cbs.com/shows/mom/video/MEfsGXdj2DgJ8VKlNoy140UHtBKJzQXR/mom-preview/
( also find it odd that there is a new show called Dads at the same time…)
Tuesday, September 24
9:00 p.m. THE GOLDBERGS – ABC – The promos for this show make me stop in front of my tv. I have high-hopes for this one. I think it will prove to be a success. It’s seems like a Jewish version of That 70s show but instead set in the 80s. Frankly, sounds perfect to me! Here’s a preview.
9:30 p.m. TROPHY WIFE – ABC – Bradley Whitford starts in this new comedy as a man on his third marriage to a younger girl. His ex-wife is played by Marcia Gay Harden (can we just talk about how amazing she is on The Newsroom?!). I get a very “Modern Family” vibe just looking at the casting to the show as well as the writing. But I think it will be a good one.
10:00 p.m. Chicago Fire – NBC – I’ve never watched this show but while I was in Chicago I was told the diner that they often shoot at is just down the street from my sister’s house. So now I feel obligated to watch at least a few episodes. (I’ve had worse reasons to watch a show!)

Wednesday, September 25
8:00 p.m. The Middle – ABC – Not sure if it will really make the DVR cut, but I do like watching this show in reruns.
8:30 p.m. BACK IN THE GAME – ABC – This show makes me want to cry. I love the idea, I love the casting and I think it could be a great hit. Or a huge miss. All depends on if ABC will give it a chance. At least it’s sandwiched between two popular shows, so it’s a great spot. Take a look at the promo and see if you agree. Plus it starts MSU alum James Caan.
9:00 p.m. Modern Family – ABC – A must watch for me!
10:00 p.m. Nashville – ABC – Have I mentioned my hate for country music? Doesn’t matter to me, I love this show!!!

Bluebird Cafe

Had to find The Bluebird Cafe as featured on the tv show, “Nashville”.

Thursday, September 26
8:00 p.m. Parks and Recreation – NBC – I’m skeptic about some of the casting changes – but as long Ron Swanson and his mustache return, I’ll be watching.
8:00 p.m. The Big Bang Theory – CBS – Is it me or does this show just keep getting better and better?
8:30 p.m. THE MILLERS – CBS – This looks completely hilarious and stars one of my favorites, Will Arnett. It looks wildly un-child friendly so we’ll have to wait for the kids to go to bed for this one!
9:00 p.m. Glee – FOX I stopped watching this show last season because it wasn’t fun anymore. I think I’ll watch it a bit to see how they deal with The Beatles and with the death of Cory – but really, I have really low expectations. This show used to be so great.

9:00 p.m. THE MICHAEL J. FOX SHOW – NBC – Pretty sure anyone growing up with Alex P. Keaton will be tuning in. I have no words for how great I expect this show to be. The promos look funny and the show appears to be very well-written. Plus, it’s based around his tv-news job – what’s not to love?
9:00 p.m. THE CRAZY ONES – CBS – Robin Williams + Sarah Michelle Geller + Chicago = Comedy Gold? I hope so!?! This show looks great – I’m surprised I haven’t heard more about it so far. I think it could pay off big for CBS. They need some funny.
9:00 p.m. Grey’s Anatomy – ABC – As long as Patrick Dempsey continues with this show, so shall I.
10:00 p.m. Parenthood – NBC – Long live Lorelei and Luke…oh wait – wrong show. This show seems to be getting better with age. I can’t wait for the real-life marriage of Lauren Graham and Peter Krause. It’s gonna happen.

Saturday, September 28

11:30 p.m. Saturday Night Live – NBC – Mostly new cast – will they bring the funny? Only one way to find out. I still have some hope.

Sunday, September 29
9:00 p.m. The Good Wife – CBS – It’s been a long summer waiting for this favorite to come back. I really wish they would move this to a night where it doesn’t get delayed by football ALL THE DAMN TIME!
9:00 p.m. Homeland – Showtime – I’ve already seen the first episode of the new season and wow – a lot has happened. I think we are in store for a wild season ahead. I don’t know about you but I can’t watch this show in real-time. I need to watch it in the daylight or I have terrible nightmares. But wow is it good or what?!

Monday, September 30
8:30 p.m. WE ARE MEN – CBS – This one has potential – but I feel like it’s a storyline played out over and over again. Four dudes living together trying to figure out to get back into the dating game. Not sure if it’s breaking any new ground here. Seems pretty stereotypical. However, it does star Tony Shalhoub and Jerry O’Connell – two guys who are pretty funny. The funniest thing about this promo was Jerry O’Connell doing his interview without a shirt. So I hope the show is better.

Sidenote – I just learned that ABC Family’s show Bunheads has been cancelled. Have we learned nothing from the countless hours of Gilmore Girls that I watch? You have to give it more than one season to catch on with people. This news is very sad because it has all the makings of something great.
