My high school had a pretty awesome television program. Remember, this was back in 1990-1994, before everyone had a camera in their pocket.
I was super lucky that we had this amazing technology and resources back then. It really did point me in the direction where I’ve taken my career.
My senior year, I even won the “Outstanding Student in Television Award,” one which I still proudly display on my desk.
I used to think we produced some amazing programming. That is, until a friend recently uncovered some of our stuff on tape and uploaded it to the internet.
My favorite project we worked on together was called “Witness to History.” We somehow convinced a lot of BIG NAMES in Chicago media to let us do interviews with them. I mean really…this would not happen today. We interview John Hultman from WBBM-AM, Joan Esposito from WMAQ-TV (whom I totally stalked throughout high school), Steve Baskerville from WBBM-TV and Steve Saunders and Tom Skilling from WGN-TV.
First – let’s talk about what I was wearing:
And again, here I am interviewing a veteran news man…wearing a jacket inside?!
OK – is this any better? I’m rocking a floral vest while interviewing Steve Baskerville:
And here’s me interviewing Joan Esposito. I seriously stalked her and wrote her letters, and met her for lunch and more…And she was always way too nice to me. I feel bad about that now.
Here’s the video. It’s 45 minutes long?!?!! Seriously, who did we think we were. It’s not that great of audio. It’s from a 20 year old VHS tape – so just deal…if you even watch it. It’s quite funny. We obviously took this way too seriously.
