It’s not often the Mr. and I get a true date night. But once I saw this event pop I, I figured it was at least our chance to get out and try some new things!
Fl Blog Con organized the event and it’s a great organization if you are a blogger, want to be a blogger or just want to hang with cool bloggers. It was a progressive. Now, not a lot of people knew what that meant. But if you’re a crazy kid like me, you may remember food progressives from church youth group! Basically, you start at one restaurant and get an appetizer, move to another for the main meal, move to another for side items, move to another for dessert. Grown up progressives are so much better since they involve alcohol!
First stop, Dexter’s in Winter Park. I’ve only been to the Dexter’s location in Thornton Park, so I was excited to try something new and different!
We started the night off right and ordered up a bottle of fancy wine based on a waiter’s recommendation. It was delicious Light, chrisp and sweat…but not too sweat. Just how I like it.
We took a group picture outside before moving on to destination #2.
Next stop, The Spice & Tea Exchange. Now, this is normally a place I would most likely not go on my own. Simply because I would assume that there is nothing there I would enjoy. I WAS SO WRONG!!! Just because I don’t like tea and really don’t like spice I thought it would be weird. But it was totally awesome and I can’t wait to go back and spend lots of money!!
See, here’s the thing. Yes, they have tea. But they also have some really, really yummy tea that I didn’t even know existed. Then, I discovered this whole world of spices you basically just rub on your chicken or beef at home, and dinner is done!! Hello!?! Sign me up!! And then I discovered salted caramel sugar and I almost passed out. And then, one of the workers started stirring this amazing mix of citrus flavors and salt and goodness…the smell was AMAZING.
Apparently the “Florida Sunshine” is a store favorite and you can put it on almost anything. We did leave empty handed, but we will be back soon to do lots of shopping. We need to actually plan to cook when we are home more, and this month, that won’t be happening. They also offer cooking classes and are planning some involving “crock-pot” and “freezer meals,” both of which speak to me as I don’t cook…at all.
Next stop, Bosphorous Turkish Cuisine. In the end, their loss. They apparently didn’t know we were coming, even though the event was scheduled with their owners. Oh well, on to the next place!
It’s all about saving the best for last…and it was the best! Peterbrooke Chocolatier has been on Park Ave. in Winter Park for awhile, but for some reason, I’ve never been in there. I will never make that mistake again!
First of all, it smells like how I image heaven would smell. We had the chance to sample a lot of their items. Let me just say, the chocolate covered popcorn…amazing. The salted caramel chocolate…to die for!! They also do a thing where they will DIP ANYTHING INTO CHOCOLATE!! So, I offered up some suggestions…because this is something that I’ve been thinking about for quite some time…and the owner seemed pretty intrigued. So I’m curious to see if they are the next best sellers!!
We also got to sample some great shortbread cookies and even wine from the Quantum Leap winery.
The highlight of the trip was finding magical Yum Yum Cakepops covered in Peterbrooke chocolate. OMG! I shoved a cookie dough cakepop in my mouth so fast that I got dizzy. It was magical.
Not only was the event just fun and a great networking event, but it also helped raise money for a good cause. The funds from the event went to a foundation organized by Jane’s Short & Sweet to help end human trafficking in Central Florida.
A big thanks to the event organizers! I can’t wait until the next one!!
The only problem with taking that dexters pic is that I didn’t show up 🙁 nice writeup!
Hi Jen! This was a great event. Looks like I made a cameo appearance in this blog post. 🙂 Just wanted to let you know that my first slow cooker class is next Wednesday. Please spread the word! http://www.facebook.com/events/141547626007124/
