One of my favorite “attractions” at EPCOT is the “Candy Lady.”
She’s a little hiding treasure that is a MUST STOP on your tour of the country’s.
The candy lady has a real name…Miyuki Sugimori.
She performs this amazing candy art that was handed down through her family and is only one of 15 people officially trained in this art field.
To see Miyuki perform, you have to head over to the Japan pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase to catch one of her shows outside the Mitsukoshi store.
It all starts with a white ball of rice candy. Pick an animal based on suggestions from the crowd and she’s hard at work. You just have to see it to believe it.
My boys got to pick the first two characters she would make. My youngest picked his favorite animal, a penguin.
Not only was it an adorable penguin, but he was holding a little ice cream cone because it was such a hot day!
Take a look:
And oldest decided to go with something a little more extreme and scary…a dragon.
She used to let the kids take home the candy. However, now the lollipops are all donated to a local children’s hospital.
Even so, the kids loved it and talked about it forever. They want to try to make them now!
If you get a chance, you must check it out!
Nice post. I love that they donate them to the children’s hospital. I believe she is the only woman who is trained in the art, or at least when she first started in the Japan pavilion she was.
