One year ago today, history was made as the world witnessed the final space shuttle launch in history.
The Space Shuttle Atlantis launched successfully for the final time on July 8 2011 at 11:29 a.m. EST. By the end of its final mission, Atlantis had orbited the Earth 4,848 times, traveling nearly 126,000,000 miles in space or more than 525 times the distance from the Earth to the Moon.
