One of our favorite vacation spots in the world, Marco Island.
Each year we rent a boat and explore the 10,000 Islands. One day, I really would like to live on one of the islands. But until that point, I’ll just pretend.
We anchor the boat at Rookery Bay and fish, swim and go shelling.
One year we were there with tons of jelly fish. They were small things and didn’t have stingers – but it was too much for me.
This year, it was hermit crabs. There were crabs in shells all over the place! The kids had a good time gathering them up and trying to get them to race. Fun times by all.
We did NOT take any crabs home with us. (That’s illegal you know!)
It is likely that the recent “supermoon” and low tides have made it easier for the baby crabs to reach land, which could help explain the increase this year, he said. Most of them are overrunning Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, two of three islands that make up the archipelago.
