British singer Amy Winehouse was reportedly found dead in her home in north London Saturday, Sky News reported. She was 27.
Such an amazing talent who obviously had a tortured soul.
In June, the Grammy Award winner had checked out of a treatment program in London. Her spokesman Chris Goodman had said the entertainer had been looking forward to touring Europe this summer.
Winehouse’s breakthrough disc, 2006’s “Back to Black,” won her five Grammy Awards and helped her achieve worldwide stardom, but her music had been overshadowed by drug use and run-ins with the law.
Why is 27 the age that hard-living musicians die? Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, and now Amy Winehouse.
At this point, it’s too early to speculate exactly how she died. But early signs point to overdose.
“They tried to make me go to rehab, I said no…no…no.”
One of the best songs ever, yet the words are now a bit eerie. I learned of Amy Winehouse originally through Rosie O’Donnell, who would sing that song over, and over, and over again.
Once I got the album, I was hooked. Amy lead me to Adele.
I only hope her death can help other talents avoid a similar fate.
RIP Amy.
