Eight years ago, I was pregnant and nesting.
I decided to make my son-to-be a Christmas stocking…all by myself. It’s something my mother did when we were little, and I thought it would be nice to have something my kids can look at and say that their mom made it for them.
It was a rather ambitious project, as I had never done a sewing project like this before- or really any sewing project for that matter.
But I figured if my mother could do it – so could I.
With that, stocking number one was complete:
It took a lot longer than I thought it would. And I never realized how frustrating it could be to untangle strings and have so many different little beads.
But it was a success!
So, with child number two came stocking number two.
He was a February baby, so I didn’t have the deadline pressure to get things done before the holidays.
Patrick’s seemed a bit more complicated, I had THREE faces to do! Those are the hardest parts…I hate doing eyes.
So now that the kids all had their own stockings…it was time for mom and dad to get in the action. Scott and I had our own stockings that we gave to each other during one of our first holidays together.
But I wanted the whole family to have a complete set of homemade stockings…so I set to work on finding, then making, a perfect stocking for Scott.
I love his stocking- it is SO Scott!
Santa sitting on a beach- just relaxing.
So this year…it’s my turn. And of course, I’ve waited until NOW to start- so needless to say, I’m a bit behind.
So the question is…can I finish in time for Christmas?
The good news is, I’ve only been working on it for about a week, and I’ve made some good progress.
I’m on step 46.
The bad news, there are 145 steps- and only 18 days until Christmas.
Here’s a quick look at my progress:
you made these!? that’s amazing! adorable!
Oh my goodness!!! They are all so cute! As crafty as I can be, the most sewing talent I have is making the baby legwarmers out of socks. I plan on asking a cousin to knit stockings for the Westfall family next year so we can have homemade stockings.
You are one talented Chica! Great job!!!!
