I’m just kidding about that last part.
He’s NOT my baby daddy…but you know, wishful thinking at all!! Kidding again…kindof!
But seriously…a boy scout camping weekend provided some excellent eye candy for the ladies this weekend at Daytona International Speedway!
Boy Scouts from around the southeastern United States were invited to the infield of Daytona to camp. If you know anything about me, you will know that I’m usually up for anything. However, camping is one of those things where I really become high maintenance. If I go camping, I have lots of rules.
For example…
*Indoor plumbing with hot water
*Secure location- there will be no camping in the open woods or some random field
*Food options nearby
All that sounded great at the Speedway! We were planning on camping, but a number of conflicts arose during the same weekend and it just wasn’t meant to be! But then the Boy Scout leader mentioned that we could just drive up for the day…and done deal!
Now, I’m a race fan…have been for quite some time. I very much follow the NASCAR circuit. I know enough about Indy to get away with it. I’ve followed the ARCA races and Rolex races because I’ve known some people who race in that. And of course, I’ve gotten into the non-NASCAR events over the last few years because of my boyfriend, Patrick Dempsey. (Legal disclaimer: he’s NOT really my boyfriend. He is NO Tiger Woods! I just like to pretend…sometimes…) So when I heard the boy scouts would be able to talk to some race car drivers, I signed up, knowing there was a high chance Patrick would attend. Two days before the event, we received the itinerary, and wouldn’t you know…they brought eye candy for the moms!!!
Now, I’ve had my chance to talk to Patrick Dempsey before. But the funny thing is, my kids were REALLY excited to see him. They have seen the movie “Enchanted” thousands of times. Many times, they see a photo or video of PD they say…is that Patrick?? Ok…well, I’ve trained them well! 🙂
Throughout the morning, we fought snow, ice, sleet, freezing temperatures and wind chills. We attempted fishing, talked to drivers in the garage area…and both of my boys kept asking for Patrick Dempsey. It was kind-of embarrassing! But the time came- and they were so excited to get a picture with him!!!
I’m just thankful that little Patrick didn’t look at big Patrick and say “Daddy!” (Because he used to do that to pictures!!!!)
I mean – how great is this picture!!!
My oldest asked a question during the Q&A section..”How do you stay warm inside your cars when it’s so cold outside?” Good question…
Then as they wrapped it up, Patrick Dempsey was stepping off stage. We were in the front row (like the good stalkers we are…) and he looked at me again and looked like he recognized me….
He said…”don’t I know you…?” And I about DIED RIGHT THERE. And I said yes, I interviewed you here last year. Would you mind taking a photo with my kids? Of course, he said sure.
So the boys went to go take a picture….and my youngest…named Patrick…was just starting at Patrick Dempsey. So I said, “Patrick, turn around!” and Dempsey says…”I’m looking right at you!” And then I said…”No little Patrick…turn around…”
And then I heard it – my dad start to speak. And I had to shut it down. I knew…just KNEW my Dad was going to make a fool out of me and tell Dempsey all about how little P was named after him.
He was so very nice to me, my family and my children. And hopefully I’m not on a watch list anywhere!
totally jealous!
