After our great World of Coke visit, we walked across the courtyard to the Georgia Aquarium. This place is amazing!
Granted, it was very crowded the day we went. But other then problems trying to find a place to sit and eat, it didn’t matter. The way each animal attraction was set up was pretty genius. There were many different ways to view all the animals and there were places to just sit and watch so you always didn’t feel like you were being herded like cattle.
My absolute FAVORITE section of the aquarium was the Ocean Voyager area. It’s pretty much the biggest aquarium you’ve ever seen filled with FOUR Whale Sharks, four manta rays and thousands of other fish in the 6.3 million gallon exhibit. The fourth ray, who measures almost nine feet across and weighs approximately 265 pounds, was collected off the coast of Florida!
I literally just sat in the viewing room for over an hour just watching the fish. The window is the second largest viewing window in the world at 23 feet tall by 61 feet wide and is 2 feet thick. It was very peaceful. We even got to see people scuba diving in this tank with some other excursion. I’m not sure I could do this one!
Patrick’s favorite part of the day was obviously, the penguins. The actual viewing area for the penguins was pretty cool, but was very congested. The beluga whales were beautiful and the otters were, as always, entertaining.
The day ended with a pretty spectatular dolphin show. We sat in the splash zone section in row 2. We didn’t really get that wet – and it was a nice up-close view. But that whole stadium was packed!! The dolphins were perfection. The performance part of it, was fine. The best part was a little girl in the front yelling…”oh no, not the singing again!” And then we all laughed because, COME ON, we were ALL thinking the same thing!
If you are in Atlanta, I promise, you will enjoy the aquarium. And the extra money for the penguin experience was totally worth it.
