Review: The Coop in Winter Park

Yes, this is another view of a John Rivers restaurant. No, I don’t get paid for any portion of these things. Having a review in a title for this blog post isn’t even fair. I’m pretty confident that at this point in life, John Rivers could fry just about anything up and I would eat it. That is how much I appreciate his food.

As far as my official review:
The food is amazing. Portion sizes are generous. It’s worth waiting in line.
I mean, I don’t have anything bad to say. Everything I tried was great.
Hush puppies will win be over any day of the week.
The creamed corn was outstanding.
I wish they had the “handmade pie” in some other flavor besides cheery.

I think my favorite thing about the restaurant was that the food matches the decor. It’s all about comfort. The tables, the chairs, the signs on the wall. All things I want my kitchen to look like once we give it that much deserved makeover. It was trendy without being over-the-top. It was charming without looking like it came out of a Restoration Hardware catalogue.

The restaurant opens daily at 11 a.m. We arrived about 10:45 a.m. and were the second people in line. By the time we left at 11:30 a.m. the line was out of the restaurant and halfway around the building. Maybe a 20 minute wait. It’s worth it for some of the best fried chicken…and some amazing sides…in all of Central Florida.
