Winter Olympics Birthday Party

Sad family here as the Olympics wrap up.  I’ve had my complaints with NBC’s coverage, I really have no other complaints about the games.  It’s been great to watch and we, as a family, still can’t get enough.  I do, however, wish that I could watch the big Gold Medal hockey games with my family.  I do hate the time difference!

But we kicked off the Olympics celebrating in style as my little man turned 8 years old.  Living in Florida, most kids down here have never gone ice skating.  It was great to see them figure out how to tie the skates, learn about the Zamboni, and hit the ice looking like baby deer who are trying to figure out how to walk.  Playing host to the event, the RDV Ice Den in Maitland.  They are a great ice skating rink and it’s a hidden gem to most in the area.  They do a great job with birthday parties and make the whole event just so easy and fun.  I do wish we had more ice rinks around town.  I would be skating more if there was at least one of the east side of Orange County!

Before the skating, kids were able to create their own Olympic flags.  We also set up a mini-photo-booth area where we could do some photos.  At the end of the skate, everyone got to take home their very own gold medal.  You can find out how to make them here.  They are always a hit at parties and so easy to make!
