2013 Road Trip Adventure – Part 1

Epic road trip 2013 is under way – so much to talk about but no time to write about it! Some notes and pictures from the road so far.

Hit a big storm on turnpike as we were leaving Florida. Thanks Florida.
It would be nice to visit Gainesville sometimes. But I want to go to the shoals. No idea that existed.

Cops waiting everywhere in Georgia when we crossed the line.
Pulled up trusty google and found fun Georgia facts for kids.
Learned all about Georgia. They really need to push Hogzilla more for state tourism. This was a big hit with the kids who then wanted to find their own Hogzilla

We passed thousands of peanut farms. Which lead to another google search. Just one of those things I’ve never thought about- how peanuts grow. And what’s the difference in how pecans grow vs peanuts. The kids were highly entertained. Then we saw a giant roadside peanut. I must get a picture on the return trip.
Big road trip hit – Waffle House.
In Tipton Georgia- ear pain hit Brendan. Only a few hours into trip we already have tears. Found a Publix and some medicine and much better in about 30 minutes.
Downtown Atlanta was cool at night. Braves game happening as we drove through. Need to come back here for a trip. Kids were really excited to see the Cartoon Network building. And the Olympic torch.

They enjoy the hills of Georgia. Keep saying woah… Like its the coolest thing ever.
Cotton museum- that looks so miserable, I can’t believe that’s a place.
But then I saw the International towing and recovery museum In Tennessee, umm….ok.

Georgia/ Tennessee line was beautiful.  Want to go back! Lookout Mountain and Ruby Falls look really cool so that’s definitely a place we will come back to and revisit.
Learned about Tennessee largest fresh water aquarium. And biggest earthquake way back in the 1800s- that scared the boys.

Took a little detour in Nashville so I could find the Bluebird Cafe from the NBC TV show.  It was smaller then I thought -but still cool!

After finding a great random, local burger place in Nasvhile we hit the road all the way to Chicago.

Indiana’s corn was really boring, except for the windmill farms.  Now that is something we need to google more to find out about – but I was frankly tired of google at this point!

Chicago has been great – and busy with some perfect weather!

Enjoy the photos and we’ll post more as this journey continues.

  1. Yay for the Lion water fountain and the cousins picture!! I can’t believe that you didn’t add the one of the spartan banner at the beach! 😉 Atlanta is a very easy road-trip from here, we should do that on a long weekend. OR, we could add it to our journey next summer. A stop in the mountains would be fun. Keep posting! I’m showing the pics to Mom as they come in!
