I’ve fallen into the Aaron Sorkin trap, again

I just love all television shows written by Aaron Sorkin and I’ve finally figured out why:

Sports Night: Show about the behind-the-scenes of producing a daily sports television show.
Main character, female executive producer of television show.  She has this “thing” with another main character on the show, who also happens to anchor the sports show.  The entire series is basically about will they, or won’t they.   Of course, the two should never be together since they work so close together, but you want it to happen the entire time. To this day, I believe that Felicity Huffman should be with Peter Krause (blurred lines between fantasy and reality on this one.)

The West Wing:  Show about the behind-the scenes inside the White House.
Main character, CJ Cregg who’s the White House Press Secretary.  She has this “thing” with another character on the show, who happens to be a White House correspondent.  There are many episodes basically about will they or won’t they.  Again, blurred lines, but I was slightly obsessed over wanting them to be together.  To this day, I believe that Allison Janney and Timothy Busfield should be together.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip:  Show about the behind-the-scenes of producing a weekly show like Saturday Night Live.  Apparently I was the only one watching this show, but I loved it.
Main character, Matt Albie who’s the executive producer of this weekly live sketch comedy show.  He has this on-again off-again thing with Harriet Hayes, who’s the start of the show.  The show wasn’t on long enough for me to get attached, but I think really wanted them to just work it out already.

And this brings us to

The Newsroom:  Show about behind-the-scenes of producing news.
Main character, Will McAvoy who’s the main anchor at ACN.  He has this “thing” with the other main character on the show, executive producer MacKenzie McHale.  She might be one of my favorite characters ever on television.  They have this same relationship that has tortured me in every Sorkin show/movie to date.  Just get together already?! Perhaps that would ruin the show.  But now Will is getting together with this gossip columnist and really, honestly, it’s keeping me up at night.  Clearly I’m the one with issues.
