Avenue Gastrobar – Downtown Orlando’s newest restaurant

I’m thrilled to have a new lunch place in downtown Orlando.  And a great one at that!!

The decor is very stylish.  A lot of wood, a lot of funky light fixtures and a beautiful looking bar.  I like that it’s very open to the outside and just overall feels very comfortable.

We started with the Loaded Tater Tots.  There really are no words to describe how good this dish is.
It’s basically a small casserole dish of tots, mixed with some melty cheese and then topped with grilled onions, bacon, and who knows what else.  It came with this create dipping sauce.
The tots were amazing on their own.  But once you put them in the sauce…OMG.
It’s like a smoky Thousand Island dressing – and it was great.

I went with the Dirty South burger.  It was quite a big burger topped with BBQ sauce and onion straws. LOTS of onion straws.  It was so big I decided to ditch the bun and use the knife.
I ordered the burger medium and it came out a little medium-rare.  That’s fine by me…that’s how I like it, but others may want to order a little more well-done.

The french fries were served on the side in a little paper bag.  The fries were delicious and came with a little side of ketchup.  But I kept dipping into the sauce from the tots.  SO GOOD!
One co-worker I was with ordered the California Chicken sandwich and said it was great.  The other ordered the meatball/sausage sub and said it was amazing.

Overall, the place was great and the price was right!! The tots were $6 and the burger was $8.  Not bad at all for downtown prices!

I’ve been back too much.  I’m the mayor on Foursquare and the Duchess on Yelp.  I may have a problem.  There’s even one waitress who addresses me as Mayor when I walk in….I do have a problem.

But, I’ve also been able to try almost everything on their menu!!!

Annato Quesadilla- loaded up with lots of meat and plenty of vegetables.  This might be the best quesadilla in the downtown Orlando area.  $7

Fish Tacos – Really good, but I was still hungry after eating them as a meal. $10

California Chicken- Great chicken sandwich with that delicious chipotle mayo $8

Chicken Pot Pie- Great super flaky crust – perfect for a rainy day.  The pie had lots of chicken and a lot of vegetables.  Pretty perfect pie at a great price.  It’s very filling. $6

Chicken & Waffles – Not bad – but not my favorite.  The chicken was good but had maybe a little too much of the panko on it.  The waffle was delicious but I didn’t love the syrup – a little too much cinnamon for my taste.  Which then left the meal a little dry.  Still very good – but again…not my favorite.  $8

Fried Oreos – I’ve had these twice.  First time, they were the best things ever.  Four fried oreos with some powered sugar on top and a small scoop of vanilla ice cream.  There were also some strawberry’s cut up on the plate.  But seriously, why pretend this is a healthy meal?  I knew what I was ordering 🙂

The second time, they changed it up a bit and poured some strawberry jam on the top of the Oreos and I almost cried.  WHY ruin the magic of the fried oreo with fruit?? (In strongly in the fruit is not dessert camp.)
But knowing this, I can order without next time. And there will be a next time.
Plus – it’s only $3 – can’t beat that!

What are you favorite places for lunch in Downtown Orlando? Is it weird that I’ve been to this place too many times? Is it wrong that I could eat these Tater Tots for every meal?
