Sick of sneezing, coughing and puking

It’s been quite a year in my house with various illnesses.  I would say this is rare.  However, there is not one winter/spring time in my life where I don’t remember being healthy.  In between my asthma/allergies, October-March really just means sick.

Thankfully, none of that has seemed to spread to my family.  The worst they ever get is strep and that’s a pretty easy fix with some medicine.

I know how lucky I am to have a healthy family.

It’s always been a fun family fact that my youngest, Patrick, has never thrown up in his lifetime.  His brother meanwhile, has thrown up quite a bit.  You see, Brendan has a pretty easy instant gag reflex like his father.  He has thrown up at school after seeing someone else throw up.  He has even thrown up in MY CAR twice.  TWICE!!!

But Patrick…he’s the rock.  Until last night.  He’s been complaining that his stomach hurts for about week now.  But he complains at random times so we kept thinking that he was just making an excuse so he doesn’t have to go sleep in his bed alone…or finish eating something he doesn’t like.

But lat night, I’m home with the kids while Scott is on his way home from work.  B and P are playing with Nerf guns…B shoots P in the eye…and tears start flowing.  He then starts complaining about this massive headache…and I kept wondering if it was the nerf bullet to the eye that caused his headache? I mean…can Nerf do that much damage?

So I pulled him in my bed, started to calm him down….and then he turned to me and puked all over my bed.  Needless to say, B ran far away and I went in to super clean freak mode.  Meanwhile, my little man passed out on the now stripped bed on a beach towel:

My sick little Patrick.

My sick little Patrick.

It was a night of puking and puking-fears.  But overall, he’s doing much better today.  Still not eating a lot, but on the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apples and toast.)

It’s funny that as a mom now you just go into this mode of action and fixing.  I’m totally fine dealing with puke.  My husband? Not so much.  But it’s fine – we divide and conquer.

I remember some pretty vivid memories as a child of throwing up some pretty specific foods (Spaghettios and Doritos).  What is the worst food you got sick on??

I’m hoping perhaps Patrick can reset his puke clock and hopefully we don’t have to deal with this again until he’s in college. 🙂
