Adventures in cupcake decorating with Sweet by Holly

My super busy weekend started off on an awesome note, Cupcake Decorating class with Sweet by Holly!

Now, if you are unfamiliar, Sweet by Holly is a great little cupcake store in Waterford Lakes in Orlando.  Hollis, the owner, has been on cupcake wars and all that jazz.  But it’s more than just looks.  I mean, her cupcakes are adorable, but they are also amazingly delicious!

Here’s a picture of me, my sister and Hollis herself:

I jumped at the chance to take a decorating class from her.  Plus, it was a fundraiser for the Orange County Library, so it was for a good cause!

Here’s a before look at my naked cupcakes:

Sweets by Holly Decorating Class – The Before Cupcakes.

We started with 12 of these mini cupcakes and some examples on the table.  Each table had about 8 people sitting there and we were each assigned a “sweetie.”  The Sweetie’s are the girls that decorate the cupcakes at the shop.  It was so much fun!!!  So much frosting, candy and sprinkles on the table made it a little difficult for me to focus, but I managed to start with the hot chocolate cupcake.  Here’s the finished product:

It’s not perfect, but it does the job.  After I did this one, just by looking at the professional version, I got some great decorating tips that made my other cupcakes much more presentable.

My sister decided to stop trying to copy the example cupcakes, and made her own Christmas wreath:

(She just came from her son’s running meet – so don’t judge!)  Everyone was so impressed by the wreath that they started copying that.  She also won a gift certificate for her work!!  So I made my own wreath, and it turned out to be the favorite of all my cupcakes.

Then I started getting really crazy and just decorating like a maniac.  I was also sneaking bits of frosting – it was just so good!  I actually left covered in frosting and didn’t want to wash my hands…I know, gross.  But it smelled SO GOOD!

Here’s a look at some of my other creations:

And because I’m on a mustache kick lately, I thought I would try my hand at an original cupcake design:

I can’t wait to sign up for the next one! I would love to learn to do more! I think the hardest part is really coming up with the design.  But now that I know a few tips, I think this might be my next thing!! Mini cupcakes for everyone!!

So here’s the question, which one is your favorite??
