There’s nothing like Christmas at Walt Disney World. One of my favorite holiday traditions, the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Back in 1998, I actually worked at the then named Disney-MGM Studios while on the college program. I worked merchandise in various stores along New York Street. I actually have some really amazingly awesome stories from those days, which I will have to blog about later. I promise, the stories are worth the wait.
But back in the day, the lights used to be in the backlot area of the studios and the store I worked in was right at the exit. Those days and nights were crazy. So many people! And some of the nights I had “glo worm” duty – which meant I had to walk the streets throughout the lights selling light-up spinny things.
I got to see the lights all the time, meet the Osborne family and it never got old.
A few years after that, they moved the lights throughout New York Street at the Studios. It’s funny to walk through there now and see that nothing has changed at all since I’ve worked there, but the lights are just as amazing as ever!!
The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights started in Arkansas as a single home’s annual display. Every year, Jennings Osborne and his family set up an elaborate collection of holiday lights and over the years, the collection of lights grew, and grew. In 1995, the Osborne family decided to share their magic with the world, and Walt Disney World Resort happily offered to become the new permanent home.
I love all the little details and hidden Mickey’s.
And, my poor husband, who spent the whole week working on the Christmas Parade filming had to deal with me wanting MORE Christmas fun!!
I love The Osborne Lights so much, I swear my husband has to pull me out of there or I would stay all night!
