Scouting for Food – You can help Central Florida

Halloween is over and if you’re like me, you’re still rolling in the candy.  But Thanksgiving is in a few short weeks and it’s important to think and talk about what you are thankful for.

For me, it’s food.  I love food, I abuse food, I eat way too much.  I enjoy it because I can.  But there are so many that aren’t so lucky.  It’s really hard to think about all those in our community who on a daily basis, struggle to find their next meal, especially the families.  That’s why I’m so motivated to get involved with a special community event.

A few months back I wrote about our experience with the Boy Scouts and Scouting For Food.  Well, it’s that time of year again and you can help!

Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from all across Central Florida will be passing out bags on November 3rd.  Fill these bags with canned food and put it on your front door step on Saturday, November 10th and they will do the rest!

Some of you may not have a bag on your door – but you can still help!

  • If you live in the Central Florida area, contact me.  I will be more than happy to pick up your donation and deliver it to the Second Harvest Food BankContact me here.
  • Every Winn Dixie in Central Florida serves as a collection site. Please take your donated items to any store in your County and place it in their Scouting for Food donation bin. To see a list of Winn Dixie’s in your area, go to http://scoutingforfood.cflscouting.org

Did you know that “Scouting for Food” is the nation’s largest single-day food drive

Your donated food will help feed people in need in your community, whether it’s Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, Brevard, Volusia or Flagler Counties – at no charge to them.

  1. I left my yellow plastic bag at 7 am this am. Now it is 5 pm and no one picked up the bag with food in it. It was visable from my driveway. Plese do not leave a bag again if you are not going to piick it up. This was very poor on the part of whoever left me this bag a week ago. This is very bad judgement on the part of the parent in charge of the pickup. I will never leave one ever again——Nita Marie Rizzo.

    • I’m sorry this happened! If you have food – I will gladly arrange pickup and drop it off at the donation spot for you! I know sometimes scouts mean well – but you would also be surprised how many people don’t put the bags back out – so perhaps they didn’t see any others around you and didn’t go in? Either way – please let me know and I will help!
